Student Resume Example and Free Template
A student resume works when it treats school as experience. Put education first, show coursework and class projects with real outcomes, and add campus jobs, clubs and volunteering as proof that you are reliable. The example below does that for a fictional business student applying for internships. Open it in the builder, swap in your own classes and activities, and download a one-page PDF.

About this sample
Taylor Brooks, the university, the coffee cart and the nonprofit are invented, and so are the numbers. Look at the order of sections: education comes right after the summary, then projects, then a part-time job, then a club role. Each project has a result someone else acted on. That is what makes a short history look substantial. It fits one US Letter page in the Clean template.
Put education first, and make it detailed
When you are still studying, your degree program is the most relevant thing you are doing, so it goes near the top. Write the degree, school, and expected graduation month and year ("expected May 2028"). Add a GPA if it strengthens your application; including it is your choice unless the employer asks for it. Then list three to five courses that relate to the job you want. "Relevant coursework" lets a recruiter see quickly that you have studied the basics of their field.
Harvard's career office recommends listing headings in order of importance and, within each heading, reverse chronological order, with the most recent first. For students, that usually means Education, Projects, Experience, Activities and Skills. Switch Experience above Projects if your part-time job is closely related to the role.
Turning class projects into experience
Group projects, research papers, lab work and design assignments are real work done to a deadline. Present them like jobs: a title, where it happened (the course or the club), dates, and one or two bullets with what you did and what came of it. The strongest project bullets show that someone used your work: a client adopted your plan, a professor shared your analysis with the class, a club ran your event.
Harvard lists "not demonstrating results" as a top resume mistake and recommends quantifying where you can. Students can usually count something: survey responses, attendance, pages written, people on the team, or the budget you managed.
Part-time jobs, clubs and volunteering
A campus job, a summer at a restaurant or a weekend shift in retail all show employers things they care about: you show up, deal with people, and handle pressure. Keep each to one or two bullets that point to responsibility, such as training new staff, handling cash, or busy periods you worked through. Club leadership and volunteering go in their own section, with the role, organization and an outcome. If you need help with experience gaps, the resume with no experience example goes deeper.
What to leave off a student resume
Most high school details can go once you are in college, unless you are in your first year or the achievement is exceptional. Leave out a photo, age and personal details; Harvard's guidance lists a picture and age among things not to include on a US resume, and UK careers advice from Prospects calls date of birth irrelevant. References are not needed on the page. Keep the format simple enough for software to read: single column, standard headings, text-based PDF. All free templates in the resume builder are built that way.

Tips for your student resume example
Write your expected graduation date
Month and year tell employers when you can start full-time and which internships fit.
List relevant coursework
Three to five course names that match the job give a recruiter quick evidence of your basics.
Give every project an outcome
Say who used your work or what changed: a plan adopted, an event run, a report shared.
Count what you can
Survey responses, attendance, team size, orders per day. Small numbers still make bullets concrete.
Stay on one page
Students rarely need two pages. Cut older or less relevant items to keep the strongest ones visible.
Frequently asked questions
What should a student put on a resume?
Contact details, an optional short summary, education with expected graduation date and relevant coursework, projects, part-time jobs, clubs or volunteering, and skills. Put education first while you are studying.
Should I include my GPA on a student resume?
It is your choice. Include it when it strengthens the application or when the employer asks for it. If you leave it out, make your projects and activities carry the weight.
How long should a student resume be?
One page. Choose your most relevant classes, projects and roles, and shorten or remove older items such as high school activities.
Can I use this student resume template for free?
Yes. Open it in the builder, replace the fictional details with yours, choose a template and download a PDF without signing up. Your resume text stays in your browser.
